Quello che non sapete è che, quasi in contemporanea, Aruba ha deciso di complicare la vita a codesto fotone, minacciando la rimozione dell&#8217;archivio fotonico delle 6 stagioni dal vecchio server. Orbene, il fotone ha deciso di spostare tutto l&#8217;archivio su un altro server (il <a href="http://www.jolek.org/">suo</a>), e ci sta pure lavorando su. Alla pagina <a href="http://caccialfotone.wordpress.com/archivio/">podcast</a> quindi, da ora, potrete trovare (again) tutte le puntate con relativo download. E ora, piano piano, comincia il replace dei link, pagina per pagina, codice per codice. Alla faccia di Aruba (tze!).</p>

Come noto, la fonte universalmente più utilizzata è <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum"><strong>il petrolio</strong></a>, e proprio su questa fonte si centrano centinaia e centinaia di studi per capire quanto ne sia rimasto, e per quanto tempo ancora potremo utilizzarlo. La teoria standard (meglio nota come &#8220;<strong>teoria biologica</strong>&#8220;) dice che materiali come il petrolio si formarono nella crosta terrestre grazie alla decomposizione di materiale organico. In realtà, dagli <strong>anni &#8217;40</strong>, avanza un&#8217;altra teoria (la &#8220;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_origin"><strong>teoria abiogenica</strong></a>&#8220;), cioè quella che ipotizza la formazione del petrolio attraverso reazioni fra rocce ed acqua che avverrebbero nella zona del mantello litosferico. <a href="http://www.wikio.it/vote" target="_blank"><img class="alignright" style="vertical-align:middle;" src="http://www.wikio.it/shared/img/vote/wikio2.gif" alt="" width="16" height="16" /></a></p>

<p><span id="more-2002"></span>Quanto petrolio nella crosta e quanto petrolio nel mantello? Il rapporto, secondo le stime più accreditate, pende per la crosta <strong>99% vs 1%</strong> nel mantello. Ma parte del petrolio potrebbe migrare (o potrebbe essere migrata) <strong>dal mantello verso la crosta</strong> grazie a <strong>piccole fratture</strong>. <p>Se proviamo ad immaginare<a href="http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v22/i1/electrical.asp"><strong> il nostro cervello come un circuito elettrico</strong></a>, con segnali di acceso/spento, ecco che balza subito agli occhi che un modello matematico probabilistico, o, per essere più precisi, un <strong>modello stocastico</strong>, potrebbe venirci incontro per dare una, seppur sommaria, rapprentazione del suo funzionamento. Ma quanto è preciso? In che misura ci possiamo fidare di modelli come questi? Con che accuratezza? E&#8217; un paper pubblicato su Plos Computational Biology che ci aiuta in questa analisi. <p>A mischiare (e confondere) le carte in tavola, in quegli anni ci pensò la stampa generalista che, con il solito qualunquismo da<strong> titolo urlato</strong>, aumentò le vendite e, proporzionalmente, anche la <strong>cattiva comunicazione</strong>. Ma in che percentuale? Un paper pubblicato su <strong>PlosONE</strong> si occupa proprio di questi argomenti, e di quanto sia stata rigorosa (o meno) la<strong> comunicazione scientifica</strong> sulle testate generaliste. Quante volte<a href="http://caccialfotone.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/non-un-pianeta-come-un-altro/"><strong> qui nel fotone</strong></a> abbiamo parlato di esopianeti e quante volte abbiamo discusso della difficoltà di individuare pianeti di piccola dimensione. In tutto questo c&#8217;è un piccolo dettaglio da non trascurare: l&#8217;<a href="http://www.btinternet.com/~martin.chaplin/molecule.html"><strong>acqua</strong></a>. L&#8217;acqua è l&#8217;ingrediente fondamentale per realizzare la<a href="http://www.ucsd.tv/miller-urey/"><strong> ricetta della vita</strong></a>. Ma l&#8217;acqua non resiste facilmente attorno alle stelle di grossa dimensione, mentre più facile è trovarla incastonata attorno alle stelle piccole. Varia, insomma,  il <a href="http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/star/protoplanetary-disk/"><strong>disco protoplanetario</strong></a>, e varia il suo contenuto. A cosa potrebbe portare questa scoperta? Il clustering è una delle tecniche forse più diffuse per fare questa operazione. Si hanno degli eventi (<strong>data</strong>), si sceglie una tecnica che identifichi elementi comuni e caratteristiche comuni per creare i gruppi (<strong>data sets</strong>), e li si unisce per fra loro (<strong>clusters</strong>). Come si può capire quindi, non è assolutamente indifferente scegliere il metodo giusto per fare un cluster. Andiamo dal <strong><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzzy_clustering">fuzzy clustering</a></strong> al clustering esclusivo, fino ad arrivare allo hier e al più celebre <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-means_clustering"><strong>k-means</strong></a>. Per la biologia, fra i tanti, ne emerge uno chiamato il <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consensus_clustering"><strong>consensus clustering</strong></a>. Il consensus però ha un difetto: raggruppa i dati lentamente e quindi rallenta le operazioni di calcolo.</p>
